Jackie Dudley
In 2005 Jackie set up the East Berkshire Ostomy Club and she has been running it ever since. One of the biggest issues patients face when leaving hospital is isolation. This is why the support groups across the UK are so important. They provide a safe and supportive environment in which ostomates can talk about the issues facing them or just meet people with the same condition.
Running a group can be hard work, but is well worth the effort. As Jackie says: ‘watching how the members have blossomed and formed friendships and listening to members open up about their problems and finding answers to their questions’ is evidence of their value.
Jackie also supports us as both an office and helpline volunteer, supporting both the day to day running of the office, and providing a friendly ear for those in need.
