Spectacular aquarium, The Deep endorsed as Stoma Friendly.

The Colostomy Association is delighted to announce that The Deep, one of the most spectacular aquariums in the UK, is now Stoma Friendly.
The Colostomy Association is currently campaigning to create a ‘stoma-friendly society’. One of the main focuses of the charity’s campaign is ensuring that accessible toilet facilities at popular destinations and organisations across the UK meet the additional requirements of people of all ages living with a stoma.
The Hull based aquarium has already won a number of awards for its accessibility and has now made changes to its four accessible toilets to ensure they are stoma friendly.
These changes follow The Colostomy Association’s recommendations:
Hook on door – to hang clothing and belongings while changing stoma bag.
Shelf space – to easily spread out stoma supplies.
Disposal bin in cubicle – to avoid having to dispose of stoma bag in public view.
Susan Hale, Colostomy Association General Manager said: “We are delighted to endorse The Deep. They already have an impressive accessibility policy and following these additional improvements visitors can now conveniently and discretely change their stoma bag. Having an award winning attraction join our campaign is excellent news.”
Louise Kirby, Operations Manager at The Deep said: “We are committed to ensuring The Deep is accessible to all and we have been making a number of improvements over the last year to ensure that all groups, regardless of their needs can enjoy a day out here. We hope that this change will make a real difference to our visitors with stoma bags and allow them to feel more comfortable here.”
